New Zealand Law Society - Young Lawyers’ Committee

Young Lawyers’ Committee

The YLC is a committee of the Wellington Branch of the New Zealand Law Society, acting as the voice of young lawyers on the Branch Council.

We provide opportunities for our fellow young lawyers to network and learn, through a range of social, wellness-focused, and educational events. We hope to enrich the experience of being a young lawyer in Wellington and to help foster a collegial and valuable network of practitioners for years to come.

The committee hosts a number of social activities throughout the year including:

  • after work networking events;
  • a harbour cruise for new graduates;
  • the "Bridging the Gap" mentoring programme;
  • a regional and national mooting competition; and
  • the annual "Young Professionals' Ball";

The YLC also organises seminars targeted at the interests of young lawyers, including career development, financial management, and wellness. This year the YLC hopes to have a particular focus on diversity and inclusion in the profession.

"Young lawyer" includes anyone up to 5 years PQE, although more experienced members of the profession are also always welcome at our events.
