The membership year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

Membership or associate membership of the New Zealand Law Society is a prerequisite for Family Law Section membership.

New Zealand Law Society membership

The membership year is from 1 July to 30 June and is available to all lawyers who hold a current practising certificate.  

Law Society membership 2024/25: $290 + GST 
Law Society membership 2025/26: $300 + GST

Membership includes membership to one section (Family Law Section, Property Law Section, or ILANZ).  Eligibility criteria apply. Additional section membership is $100 plus GST.

Family Law Section Associate membership is available to associate members of the New Zealand Law Society who do not hold a current practising certificate but have a significant interest in family law. Examples of associate members would be retired lawyers; overseas lawyers; present and former members of the judiciary in New Zealand or elsewhere; and legal academics.
