In-house lawyers who have been nominated for the 2015 CLANZ Awards have been announced. The annual awards are held by CLANZ, the New Zealand Law Society's Section for in-house lawyers.

The award winners will be announced at the CLANZ Annual Conference in Pahia on 22 May 2015.

The nominees are (in alphabetical order): 

CLANZ-Chapman Tripp Public Sector In-House Lawyer of the Year 

Katherine Anderson (General Counsel, Auckland Council - Legal Services), Nerissa Barber (Chief Legal Advisor, Ministry for Culture and Heritage), John Buick-Constable (Principal Legal Advisor, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment), Mike Cameron (Lead Legislative Solicitor, Department of Corrections), Lucy Ellis (Senior Solicitor, Financial Markets Authority), Grant Fletcher (Senior Solicitor, Ministry for Primary Industries), Michael Hargreaves (Chief Legal Advisor, Worksafe New Zealand), Christopher Howard (Senior Solicitor, Ministry of Social Development), Eleanor Jamieson (Senior Solicitor, Department of Conservation), Una Jagose (Acting Director General, Crown Law), David Pawson (Senior Prosecutor, New Zealand Police), Jeremy Prebble (Crown Counsel, Crown Law), Martin Sawyers (Legal Counsel, Real Estate Agents Authority), Ian Thomson (Senior Solicitor, Christchurch City Council), Larissa Vaughan (In-House Lawyer, Kiwibank).

This is awarded to a lawyer who has made a valuable contribution to their organisation and the legal profession through leadership and excellence in the provision of legal services aligned to the organisation's strategic goals, effective team management (where appropriate) or management of external advisors, and innovation and best practice. The winner receives a scholarship package with a value of $5,000 from Chapman Tripp to be spent on development activities for them and/or their team.

CLANZ-Greenwood Roche Chisnall Private Sector In-House Lawyer of the Year 

Charles Bolt (General Counsel and Company Secretary, Fletcher Building Ltd), Mike Brooker (General Counsel, Foodstuffs North Island Ltd), Luke Facer (General Counsel, Orion Health Group), Mike Hendriksen (Head of Dispute Resolution and Acting Chief Compliance Officer, Westpac), Rebecca Holbrook (General Counsel, Fisher and Paykel Appliances Ltd), Diana Hudson (Managing Solicitor, Otago Southland Employers Association), Brent Norling (Senior In-house Counsel, Waterstone Insolvency Ltd), Liam O'Reilly (General Counsel and Company Secretary, Paymark Ltd), Andrew Penn (Executive Legal Counsel, AMP Capital Investors (NZ) Ltd), Anton Shead (General Counsel, Goodman Property Services (NZ)), Vicki Slater (Legal Counsel, Huawei Technologies), Trevor Wairepo (General Counsel, Kiwi Property Group), Alison Whitney (NZ Legal Counsel, New Zealand Media and Entertainment). 

This is awarded to a lawyer who has made a valuable contribution to their organisation and the legal profession through leadership and excellence in the provision of legal services aligned to the organisation's strategic goals, effective team management (where appropriate) or management of external advisors, and innovation and best practice. The winner receives a scholarship package with a value of $5,000 from Greenwood Roche Chisnall to be spent on development activities for them and their team.

CLANZ-MAS Young In-House Lawyer of the Year

Mike Green (Legal Counsel, Xero), Brent Norling (Senior In-house Counsel, Waterstone Involvency Ltd), Jessica Sebastian (Solicitor, Whitirea Community Law Group), Natalie Summerville (Senior Legal Counsel, Fisher and Paykel Appliances). 

This is awarded to a lawyer who has demonstrated their potential as a leading member of the in-house legal profession in New Zealand through excellence in the provision of legal services that have significantly contributed to their organisation's performance, academic ability and the ability to develop knowledge of areas of law not previously practised by the nominee, and leadership potential. The winner receives a scholarship package with a value of $5,000 from MAS to be spent on initiatives that will help them develop their career.

CLANZ-AUT Law School Community Contribution Award

Gretchen Cotter (Senior Counsel, ANZ Bank for her contribution to Southern Cross Junior School), Iain Feist (Senior Solicitor, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment for his work with Makara Park Supporters), Helen Mackay (CLANZ Executive Officer, New Zealand Law Society, for her contribution to the Board of Trustees at Island Bay School), John Steadman (Senior Legal Counsel, Spark New Zealand for his contribution to the Marram Community Trust, NZ Body Arts Charitable Trust, Olympic Park Charitable Trust and Citizens Advice Bureau).

This is awarded to an in-house lawyer who has made an outstanding contribution to the community beyond their "day job". The winner will have $2,000 paid to their chosen cause, courtesy of the AUT Law School.
