NZLS refines client care information

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

The New Zealand Law Society has reviewed and refined its model client care information.

The information was developed to assist practitioners on implementation of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006 which brought in changed requirements for client care information with the Rules of Conduct and Client Care. The Rules took effect from 1 August 2008.

The model forms Information for Clients, a sample Terms of Engagement, and a sample Letter of Engagement have been reviewed and are now available for download in the Client Care section of the Law Society's website.

The refinements include the addition of more information in the sample Terms of Engagement on matters such as file retention on termination of retainer.

The sample Terms of Engagement are intended as a service by the Law Society and do not constitute legal advice. Each law practice will need to decide what terms and conditions are appropriate for the services it provides. The New Zealand Law Society accepts no responsibility or liability for anything done in reliance on these Terms of Engagement.
