Commission proposes number portability continuation

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

A draft determination from the Commerce Commission proposes continuing the regulation of number portability services for both local and mobile telephone numbers for another five years.

Number portability enables a customer to switch telecommunications providers while retaining the same telephone number.

These include extending the standard hours of operation to guarantee that consumers can switch providers on a Saturday, and tidying up some terms to make it easier for telecommunications providers to undertake network updates.

Submissions on the draft determination close on 1 December 2016.
