Taryn is a senior barrister who specialises in commercial and civil litigation. She also acts as counsel to assist the coroner and is on the legal assistance panel for the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care. Taryn is an accredited mediator – assisting parties to choose their own solutions to disputes. A barrister since 2016, Dunedin-based Taryn has previously worked at Clyde & Co in London, and in Bell Gully’s Wellington office. In 2014 she was a finalist in the Rising Star - Litigation category in the Euromoney Legal Media Group Australasia Women in Business Awards. She holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting.  

Her governance experience includes being President of the Law Society’s Otago Branch Council since 2020, and a Council member of the New Zealand Bar Association │ Ngā Ahorangi Motuhake o te Ture. Taryn was the convenor of the Otago Women Lawyers Society in 2010. Her community involvement includes being a former member of the Board of Trustees at King’s High School, Dunedin, with over three years as Deputy Chair. She is also a former trustee of the King’s High School Charitable Trust. Taryn is an immigrant and came to New Zealand from South Africa when she was 17.
