Law Commission wants input on abortion law

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

The Law Commission is seeking public input on how New Zealand's abortion laws could be made consistent with treating abortion as a health issue.

The Commission says Justice Minister Andrew Little asked it to provide him with a briefing on what alternative approaches could be taken in our legal framework to align with a health approach.

The Commission has created a website to explain the current law and the process for receiving abortion services.

It is inviting public feedback through the website or by email until 18 May 2018. It will provide advice to the Minister in October 2018.
