The Ministry of Justice has published an induction guide for lawyers delivering legal aid services.
The guide covers a wide range of topics including how legal aid operates, the quality assurance framework, legal aid eligibility and legal aid debt.
Legal Aid Services General Manager Jacquelyn Shannon says the Legal Aid Lawyer Induction Guide draws on material sourced from the legal aid grants handbook.
"The guide aims to support newly approved legal aid providers in performing their duties while also being useful for established lawyers wanting to refresh their knowledge of legal aid processes," Ms Shannon says.
"In producing the guide we sought feedback from a range of groups including the New Zealand Law Society and a group of newly approved legal aid providers to ensure it is appropriate and fit for purpose."
The Induction Guide and other Legal Aid provider manuals are available on the Ministry of Justice website.
