Welcome to the new website for the New Zealand Law Society | Te Kāhui Ture o Aotearoa.

The main changes you’ll see include the use of illustrations and photos, the layout of the site and the search function for finding a lawyer. We’ve also designed the site so it’s much easier to use on a mobile device.

You will find most of the content from our previous site on here, however any saved links or bookmarks you normally use to get to frequently visited parts of our site will no longer work.

The site is organised into four main areas:

• For the public – here you will find information on finding a lawyer, common legal issues and how to make a complaint.
• Professional practice – this section houses information and guidance on practising as a lawyer.
• Starting as a lawyer – here you will find information about becoming a lawyer including the certificate of character application form
• News – this section breaks down our latest news, LawTalk articles and profiles.

One of the biggest changes to the site is our search function for the public called Get legal help. This allows anyone to search for a lawyer by practice area and / or location. There is also the option to search for lawyers who can speak specific languages, such as Te reo Māori, Mandarin or Hindi.

If you are a practising lawyer this could be a good time to check the information we hold in Registry and update it with your practice area and any languages you use for business.
