Pool barrier notices required from 1 September 2017

This article is over 3 years old. More recent information on this subject may exist.

From 1 September 2017, manufacturers and retailers will be required to supply notices with pools informing consumers that the pool must have barriers that restrict access by young children.

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, acting under delgated authority, has gazetted the Building (Pool Manfacturers and Retailers) Notice 2017.

The notice requirement applies to pools that can be filled with water to a depth of 400mm or more. It does not apply to "an ordinary home bath".

The Notice provides three warning messages which are required for (1) pools with retail packaging other than small heated pools, (2) pools that do not have retail packaging other than small heated pools, and (3) small heated pools.

There are requirements for where the notices must be displayed or affixed, depending on whether the pool has retail packaging or not.

The Notice also specifies the required font and typeface (Arial).
