Criminal justice reformer Senior New Zealander of the Year

Kim Workman has been named Senior New Zealander of the Year 2018.

Mr Workman was the instigator of Justspeak, a network of young people who want change in New Zealand's criminal justice system.

After careers in the Police, Office of the Ombudsman, State Services Commission, Department of Māori Affairs, Ministry of Health and Prison Service, since 2007 he has focused on justice reform, public advocacy, policy and research.

At present Mr Workman is working on a book on the development of the criminal justice system in New Zealand, Criminal Justice, the State, and Māori, which examines the relationship between punitiveness and neoliberalism.
