Parekawhia McLean appointed Chief Executive for CCRC

Chief Commissioner Colin Carruthers announced Parekawhia McLean as Te Kāhui Tātari Ture | Criminal Cases Review Commission’s Chief Executive.

Parekawhia, who affiliates to Ngāti Mahanga-Hourua, Waikato and Ngāti Maniapoto, has been appointed for a period of five years beginning in November.

Ms McLean is currently the Director of Strategy and Infrastructure at Counties Manukau District Health Board. Her previous roles include Chief Executive of Waikato-Tainui, New Zealand Transport Agency’s Central North Island Regional Director. He has also held roles in the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and Crown Entities.

At the CCRC, Ms McLean’s role includes supporting the Commissioners to oversee the review and investigation of convictions and sentences and decide whether to refer them to an appeal court; providing an outreach and education programme; and if required, undertake systemic inquiries.
