Tom McLaughlin rejoins Dentons as Partner

Dentons New Zealand has strengthened its national financial markets team, with Tom McLaughlin rejoining the firm as a Partner in Auckland.

Tom brings significant expertise to Dentons’ team, with over 12 years' experience in New Zealand and internationally.

Most recently, Tom worked in the Cayman Islands as part of Ogier’s multi-disciplinary private equity team. Tom was previously employed at New York law firm Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP. He holds a Master of Laws from Stanford University. 

Tom advises on all facets of investment funds and other financial products and services, including Fintech solutions. He has experience in financial product and service launches, corporate and fund restructurings, regulatory compliance, and capital raising transactions. He also advises on regulated takeovers, NZX Listing Rules compliance, and corporate transactions involving financial services businesses. 

Tom’s advice assists clients in navigating complex legal and commercial challenges. He advises a diverse set of clients, including managers of both retail and wholesale/private investment funds, insurers, capital markets participants, and financial advice service providers. 

Tom was previously ranked as an Associate to Watch in Chambers Asia-Pacific from 2019 to 2023 and acknowledged as a Next Generation Lawyer / Rising Star in The Legal 500 Asia Pacific during the same period. In 2021, he was a finalist in the Young Private Practice Lawyer of the Year category at the New Zealand Law Awards and was included on NZ Lawyer’s Rising Stars list.
