The number of final Protection Orders granted under the Domestic Violence Act 1995 or Sentencing Act 2002 has shown a steady rise over the last five years.
Information released by Justice Minister Amy Adams in response to written parliamentary questions from Labour MP Stuart Nash shows there were 3,611 final Protection Orders granted in 2016. This was up 3.9% on the previous year.
Mr Nash also requested information on the number of Protection Orders which had been dismissed or struck out. Ms Adams' information said the data released for the 2016 year was lower than in previous years because some applications filed in 2016 were still before the court at the time of extraction.
