The New Zealand Law Society is the professional membership body of the legal profession. It carries out a range of activities including the provision of an extensive and market leading continuing professional development (CPD) programme throughout New Zealand through its wholly owned subsidiary NZLS CLE Ltd.

The opportunity
As the Business Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in commissioning innovative CPD programmes, driving revenue growth and achieving financial targets for the continuing legal education business of the NZLS.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, you will be at the forefront of identifying new opportunities, building relationships with stakeholders, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational services for legal professionals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Commission high-quality and topical CPD programmes that meet the needs of the legal profession and are aligned with the NZLS CLE Ltd strategy
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive business development plan to achieve financial goals
  • Monitor and analyse market trends, customer feedback, and competitor activities to sustain NZLS CLE Ltd’s competitive edge
  • Identify new business opportunities, including products, services, and markets
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with legal practitioners, judiciary members, law firms, and other key stakeholders
  • Ensure the diversity and inclusivity of presenters and programme offerings
  • Collaborate with internal teams to design and execute effective marketing strategies

What you will need:

  • Superior business development skills, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, or marketing, preferably in the legal or professional services industry
  • Commercial nous with a proven track record of achieving revenue growth targets and fostering successful business relationships
  • Strategic thinker with excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong knowledge of or interest in the law
  • Familiarity with the New Zealand legal industry is highly desirable
  • Proficiency in sales forecasting, and financial analysis
  • Highly motivated with a “can do” attitude and maturity
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems
  • A Bachelor’s degree in law, business, marketing, or a related field
