This is an exciting and pacey full-time role for a commercially savvy General Counsel who wants to be part of a business with a difference.  Reporting to the CFO and leading one direct report, here is your opportunity to join this innovative market leader in a dynamic and rewarding role.

Working collaboratively with your colleagues, you will provide timely and pragmatic legal advice that supports the business in achieving its strategic and operational objectives. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide effective and strategic counsel to the business and lead by example. Your strong commitment to professional and personal excellence combined with your commercial nous, will ensure you contribute to overall success of AROA.

You will contribute towards effective corporate governance practices, leadership of the company’s risk management practice, and will be accountable for all legal aspects of engagement and partnering with key stakeholders across the business.

What we’re looking for

  • A strong LLB degree with upwards of 10+ years’ good quality experience from a top law firm and hold or be entitled to hold a current New Zealand legal practising certificate.
  • Experience as a General Counsel or 2IC to a General Counsel preferred.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry and with offshore markets (particularly USA would be helpful. Relevant industry experience (healthcare or similar) preferred but not essential.
  • Commercial and pragmatic interpersonal style with the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail and a commercial approach to legal risk valued.
  • A values-centric collaborative leader with commercial nous and a growth mindset.
