About the role

This is a fixed-term contract position as the Ministry Standards Registrar for the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand and Polynesia. In this role, you will be responsible for establishing and administering a national ministry standards system to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all people engaging with the Anglican Church. This is an important role that will have a direct impact on the Church's commitment to upholding the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

What you'll be doing:

  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive national ministry standards policy and procedures
  • Overseeing the intake, management and resolution of all formal complaints and concerns about the conduct of clergy and laity in ministry
  • Providing advice and guidance to bishops, clergy and lay leaders on ministry standards and best practice
  • Coordinating training and education programs on ministry standards for clergy, laity and church leaders
  • Maintaining detailed records and generating regular reporting on ministry standards activities
  • Collaborating with legal counsel, human resources and other stakeholders to ensure robust and fair processes

What we're looking for:

  • A barrister and/or solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand with a minimum of seven years’ experience
  • Significant experience in a regulatory, compliance or standards-setting role, preferably within a faith-based or not-for-profit organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective policies, procedures and systems
  • Cultural competence and experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to build trust and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • A deep understanding of and commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity, ethics and duty of care
  • Familiarity with the structure, governance and practices of the Anglican Church would be advantageous but is not a requirement
