The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is Aotearoa New Zealand’s privacy regulator, protecting the taonga that is personal information.  We identify and address systemic and population-scale privacy issues, increase good privacy practice, and champion the privacy rights of all New Zealanders. 

We work in partnership with Māori to take a te ao Māori perspective on privacy, engaging and empowering people and communities vulnerable to serious privacy harm.

Ko tā mātou mahi – the role

We are looking for an experienced Investigator who can operate at a senior level in our  Investigation and Dispute Resolution team.  This is a 12-month fixed-term role where you will be handling our more complex cases. This is a great opportunity for a high performing individual with the experience, skills, and competencies to step up into a senior position, where you will be supported by other senior practitioners in the team.  Location is Auckland or Wellington

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu – what you need to bring

  • A tertiary legal qualification or relevant experience in interpreting and applying legal principles .
  • Experience investigating disputes or complaints, particularly in a regulatory environment, would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the use of mediation or other alternative dispute resolution methods to resolve disputes would likewise be an advantage.
  • Strong inter-personal skills, and the ability to engage with people from all walks of life, including the ability to deal effectively with complex behaviours and challenging material.
