This is an excellent opportunity to join Westpac’s legal team on a 12-month fixed term basis.  

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

We have a newly created opportunity within our Regulatory Affairs, Corporate and Legal Services team for a proactive and experienced lawyer to deliver high-quality legal services to the Consumer Banking & Wealth Business unit (CB&W).

Key tasks will include:

  • Develop positive working relationships with the product, distribution, compliance, credit, risk, marketing, and transformation teams through providing timely and sound verbal or written legal advice on matters
  • Provide and help to develop improvements on processes/ procedures where appropriate
  • Consider legal and commercial risk in all aspects of work undertaken to ensure balanced business decisions are made that are in line with overall bank objectives

Nā tāu rourou | What will you bring?

We are looking for an accomplished, astute legal professional to join the team. Key attributes required are:

  • Bachelor of Laws (or appropriate overseas equivalent) and (entitlement to) NZ Practising Certificate
  • A minimum of 10 years’ post admission experience
  • Technical skills and sound knowledge of financial services laws 
  • Strong relationship building and administrative skills
  • Proven legal research and legal opinion writing
